Welcome to the website of Jill Culver, doula . I serve families in the Greater Vancouver area of British Columbia.
The word "doula" comes from the Greek meaning "slave" or "servant". It has evolved to mean a woman trained to help others woman in pregnancy and childbirth with physical, emotional and informational support.
There seems to be some confusion as to what doulas actually do. Adding to this is that the term doula can be used to describe a woman who attends the actual birth and labour with her client (birth doula), and also to describe a person who comes into the home after the baby has been born (postpartum doula). I am lucky enough to be trained and experienced in both, and am currently welcoming both labour and postpartum clients.
